Aspartate aminotransferase (EC 2.6.1.1, AST),formerly called Glutamic Oxalacetic Transaminase (GOT), is present in both cytoplasm and mitochondria of cells,belonging to the transaminase family, which catalyze the conversion of amino acids and α-oxoglutarate by transfer of amino groups.
